Business Development & Management “#BossOut”

All students will gain the fundamental knowledge of business development and organizational operations and management. They will learn the basics of vision-shaping, vision-sharing (pitch), money management, developing their resume, building relationships, and developing their own personal brand

When I was 13 years old, I wrote my first real song. My parents invested in me and bought an 8-track tape deck where I learned how to record and stack my vocals. Every day after school, I would come home and record, re-record, break tapes and record again. At 14, they saw my seriousness and they purchased a Zoom Multi-track digital recorder. I would write and record all of my (not-so-good ideas). At 16 years old, I waited for my father to go on a business trip out of the country and I borrowed his laptop, microphone, m-box, and oxygen 8 and taught myself how to use Pro-tools and Logic. I created a basic track, exported the file, imported it into ProTools, and recorded my lead and background vocals. I taught myself how to edit, sloppily but an edit nonetheless. I received

training and mentorship from industry professionals and grew as a decent recording engineer, vocal producer and arranger.

For the past 15 years of my life, I have made a living recording, editing, producing, and training others to do the same. Music and the technology of music changed my life, made me more than a singer, more than an artist, gave me a focus, built my confidence, and helped me develop in so many other ways.

I am proud to be a creative, a businesswoman and a techie and have a passion to give other young women that exposure and outlet!

Personal & Professional Core Values:

Students will learn the core values of interdependence, accountability, balance, and persistence. These core values are essential to positive growth in business and artistic expression.

Self-Expression:

Regardless of the field many of the students desire to pursue, each individual has a story, an opinion, and a voice. They must discover that voice and learn how to positively express their emotions and rationale. Through songwriting, production, and performance they will develop the ability to deliver clear concepts, retain information, collaborate, and relate to their peers.

Entrepreneurial Empowerment:

They will learn life skills that will teach these young women how to “lean in” at any age. They will begin to draft their life’s vision now and understand the importance of writing their own script in life. Through business plan development, networking opportunities, brand development, social media management, and more, they will understand the foundation of launching their own sole-proprietorship
